How can I Texture my Metal Clay pieces

This is the fun part working with Metal Clay. You can use almost anything around you to texture your clay like:

  • Fabrics with a special weave

  • Lace (one of my favorites)

  • Leather

  • Buttons with lovely textures

  • Sea shells, sea urchins, starfish

  • Leaves, twigs

  • Textured cardboards

  • Wall papers

  • Kids toys

  • Old cutlery have really nice textures

  • Readymade textures. You can find a lovely variety from our website or from hobby stores.

The list is endless and once you start looking around, you will be amazed how many different textures you can see and use. Also, you can make your own texture plates using polymer clay.

When you decide what texture you're going to use on your piece roll your clay at least 0.25 mm thicker than the desired thickness. With your finger add sparingly some badger balm (or alternatively use any other natural oil like virgin olive oil) on the clay surface to prevent the clay from sticking on the texture surface. Then, press your texture on the clay. If you like the imprint result/quality, continue to the next step otherwise collect your clay and start from the beginning.

Happy to read any comments you may have.
